API 5CT Grade H40 is a type of carbon steel pipe that is manufactured according to API specifications. It is a general-purpose pipe that is used in OCTG, and is primarily used to protect the walls of petroleum wells.
API 5CT Grade H40 carbon steel tubings are made with multiple end connections, such as non-Upset ends and External Upset Ends. They are made with dimensions ranging from 4.5 inches to 20 inches in casting.
The H40 designation in API 5CT H40 OCTG casing refers to the specific grade of steel used in its manufacturing. API organizes tubing grades into three groups:
- Group 1: Includes all tubing in grades H40, J55, and N80
- Group 2: Includes restricted-yield tubing grades L80, C90, and T95
- Group 3: Includes high-strength tubing in seamless grade P110
