USS SC90 Steel Grade Specifications

USS SC90 is a proprietary restricted yield strength steel grade developed by U.S. Steel for use in sour condensate wells. This grade is specifically designed to offer enhanced properties for applications where the resistance to sulfide stress cracking (SSC) is essential.

Mechanical Properties

  • Minimum Yield Strength: 90,000 psi
  • Maximum Yield Strength: 105,000 psi
  • Minimum Tensile Strength: 100,000 psi
  • Maximum Hardness: 24.0 HRC (mean), 26.0 HRC (individual)

The mechanical properties of USS SC90 steel grade provide a balance of strength and ductility, suitable for the challenging conditions encountered in sour condensate wells.

Special Requirements

Unlike the standard USS C90, the USS SC90 requires impact testing to ensure the material's toughness and resistance to brittle fracture under low-temperature conditions commonly found in sour service environments.

Hardness testing for USS SC90 is conducted on each end of each joint for casing and non-upset tubing. This additional testing ensures the consistency and reliability of the steel's hardness properties throughout the length of the tubing.

Standards and Inspection

The inspection requirements and dimensional tolerances for USS SC90 are in accordance with API L80, which is a standard that specifies the properties and testing requirements for line pipe used in drilling and production activities in the oil and gas industry.
